Gluten Free Baked Ziti
There’s nothing better than a delicious, easy casserole…especially when it’s Italian! This gluten-free pasta classic is filling and so flavorful, with an Italian sausage meat sauce and layers of Italian cheeses.

Getting Ready: Chop onion, shred the mozzarella, mince the garlic, grate the parmesan, spray a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray, and set out a medium-sized saucepan on your stove.

Cook beef, sausage, onion, and garlic over medium heat.

Stir frequently until meats are fully cooked.

Add sauce, reduce heat.

Stir and simmer for 15 minutes.

Bring a large pot of water to a boil.

Cook pasta until al dente. Drain when done.

While the sauce is simmering and pasta is cooking, prepare the cheese spread: In a medium bowl, combine egg, ricotta, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.

Stir thoroughly.

Set aside. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Add drained pasta to meat sauce mixture.

Gently stir.

Make sure that all pasta is coated with sauce.

Assemble: Layer the bottom of your dish with 1/2 the pasta/sauce mixture.

Add a single layer of provolone.

Spread 1/2 the ricotta mixture over the provolone.

Sprinkle 1/2 the mozzarella and 1/2 the parmesan over the ricotta.

Layer on the second 1/2 of the pasta/sauce mixture.

Add a single layer of provolone.

Spread the remaining 1/2 of the ricotta cheese mix.

Sprinkle on the remaining 1/2 of both the mozzarella and the parmesan.

Cover with tinfoil, wrapping foil around the edges of dish.

Bake 30-40 minutes or until heated throughout. Remove from oven and remove tinfoil.

INGREDIENTS
1 lb. gluten free penne, ziti, or similar pasta
1 lb. ground beef
Mild Italian sausage (2-3)
4 cloves garlic
1 medium-sized yellow onion
2 jars gluten free spaghetti sauce of choice (you will probably only use 1 ½)
6 oz. provolone cheese, sliced
6 oz. mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 egg
1 ½ cups ricotta cheese
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1/2 tsp. Italian seasoning
DIRECTIONS

Mince the garlic
Grate the parmesan
Spray a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray
Let's Get Started:
In medium saucepan or large saute pan cook beef, sausage, onion and garlic over medium heat.
When meats are thoroughly cooked, add sauce.
Reduce heat, stir, and simmer 15 minutes.
Bring a pot of water to boil and cook pasta until al dente. Drain when done.
While the sauce is simmering and pasta is cooking, prepare the cheese spread: In a medium bowl, combine egg, ricotta, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Stir. Set aside.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Gently stir drained pasta into meat/sauce mixture
To assemble, layer ingredients in this order: Spoon in 1/2 the sauce/pasta mixture, Single layer of provolone, 1/2 the ricotta mixture, 1/2 the mozzarella and 1/2 the parmesan, Repeat.
Cover with tinfoil.
Bake 30-40 minutes or until heated through. Remove from oven and remove tinfoil.
Serve!
